On the St. Helena Highway, north of Rutherford Road, just south of Zinfandel Lane, on the west side of the road, is the imposing red building of Provenance Vineyards. Drive in and visit their tasting room, which is among the finest we have seen, with attention to all imaginable details. It is a comfortable room with extremely tasteful decoration; a perfect match for the extremely fine wines which are offered there. Liz Lease is the manager of the Visitor Center and tasting room. Under her supervision, the tasting experience is well worthwhile. We highly recommend a visit to Provenance Vineyards during your stay in Napa Valley.

During 2007 we were fortunate to visit Northern California several times, and had the pleasure of visiting Provenance Vineyards. We would not want to miss an opportunity to visit this great winery. The winemaker is Tom Rinaldi, who is earning many credits, awards and accolades for his creations.

We tasted a range of wines, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet-Sauvignon, and Merlot. All the wines were excellent and we rated all the wines in the 90's.

Cabernet-Sauvignon, Rutherford, 2004 91
Cabernet-Sauvignon, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, 2004 92
Cabernet-Sauvignon, Hewitt Vineyard, 2004 94
Merlot, Mount Veeder, Paras Vineyard, 2004 92
Merlot, Napa Valley, 2004 90
Merlot, Carneros, 2003 91
Merlot, Beckstoffer Las Amigas Vineyard, 2004 92
Sauvignon Blanc Estate, 2006 90

Our choice for best red wine is the Cabernet-Sauvignon, of 2004, priced at $85, and which received our rating of 94. Making this choice is unfair to the other wines, which are all exceptionally fine. The Mount Veeder Merlot of 2004 is also a great wine, either to sip alone, or to accompany just about any fine meal; it is priced at $65. We are looking forward to tasting further releases.
